Development of roof-shed observatory for Fergusson College, Pune

From November 2015 to May 2016 I worked with Mr. Manish Hiray and Prof. Raka Dabhade , Head of Physics Department, Fergusson Collge, Pune on setting up a roof-shed observatory for a 9.25 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope. We spent several winter nights on the hardware-software interfacing, observations of variable stars and performing photometric data analysis of the images.

An image of the star cluster M67 taken from the observatory is shown below:m67_1.png

Using pattern matching techniques there are algorithms which provide “astrometry” service to automatically identify the stars in our images based on a well defined catalogue. Below is astrometry performed on the image above and the green circles indicate the name of the object/stars.
